Electric Cement Mixer – Quick Start Guide
To start your electric concrete mixer, plug the power cord into a suitable power source, place the mixer on a level surface, and load the drum with the dry mix and water. Turn the mixer on at the power switch and add water to consolidate the mix, followed by the remaining ingredients. After mixing to the proper consistency, turn the mixer off, pour the cement mixture out and then clean the drum immediately to prevent material from hardening.
- Safety and Setup
- Wear Safety Gear: Always wear long sleeves, gloves, and safety goggles or a face shield to protect yourself from cement dust. A respirator is recommended to prevent dust inhalation, which can cause silicosis.
- Check the Mixer: Ensure the mixer is free of any dried cement or debris and that all guard and drive mechanisms are secure.
- Find a Level Surface: Position the mixer on firm, level ground to prevent it from tipping while in operation.
- Loading the Drum
- Add “Head Water”: Pour about ¾ of the pre-measured water into the empty mixer.
- Add Dry Mix: Add the dry concrete mix to the water.
- Add Remaining Water: Slowly add the rest of the water while the mixer is running.
- Mixing
- Turn On the Mixer: Activate the power switch to start the motor and drum rotation.
- Mix the Contents: Allow the ingredients to mix for approximately three minutes to thoroughly combine them.
- Check Consistency: The concrete should have the consistency of thick oatmeal – it should hold together in a ball but crumble with a light touch.
- Finishing and Cleaning
- Turn Off the Mixer: Switch the power off and unplug the mixer.
- Clean the Drum Immediately : After the mixer has been emptied from the drum, clean the drum immediately to remove any remaining concrete. Dried concrete can be difficult to remove and can damage the mixer.
Any residual concrete left in the mixer when you return it will need to be removed (usually requires removal with a hammer drill). You Will Be charged for any removal and cleaning – minimum removal and cleaning fee is $150 and upwards, depending on the time required to remove left on concrete!
